One thing I’ve been reminded of from our Holy Spirit study this Summer is how intentional the Holy Spirit is in His role. Every single thing he does is full of purpose and ON purpose. (John 14:26) Much like Jesus while he was on the Earth, The Holy Spirit has a specific calling and focus.

In John 16:14, Jesus explains more about the Holy Spirit to His disciples:

‘He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.’

I have to admit when I first read this in R.T. Kendall’s book, I had difficulty wrapping my brain around it. What does that mean? What is the Holy Spirit taking from Jesus and making known to us?? In the New Living Translation, it says:

‘He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.’

The Holy Spirit’s primary focus is to shine a bright light on Jesus – and – the honour He deserves for being our Redeemer and King. The truth of Jesus — who He is, what He did, what He said, what He does, and what He will do — is brought directly from Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, to us.

The more we know of Christ and fully grasp what He did for us, the more our heart’s response should lead and will lead to an increase of awe and worship, bringing Him the glory and honour He deserves.

This is what is so wonderful about the gift of the Spirit! Though Jesus is not physically present on Earth, the Spirit reveals Jesus to us and as a result, we are transformed! (2 Corinthians 3:18)

This is what my heart wants, too. Not simply information I can read about Jesus or inspiration from someone else’s experience, but a personal revelation of Jesus from the Holy Spirit himself. May we boldly ask the Holy Spirit to show us more of who Jesus truly is — and may we never hesitate in giving Jesus complete and total praise and glory for what He’s done for us!
